Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces memorial services for Mr. Ronald J. Twarog, age 70, of Hiawassee, who passed away Friday, September 13, 2013, at Union General Hospital in Blairsville from complications due to cancer.
Ron was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 4, 1943, to Joseph and Julia Twarog. He worked for Western Electric and AT&T as a cabling engineer until his retirement in 1999. He completed his career with AT&T as a manager in Atlanta. Ron proudly served his country in Korea as a U.S Army veteran. He enjoyed gardening and sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, Black Hawks and Bears. Gifted with a servant's heart and a passion for people, Ron would help, share, and give to others in various capacities and leadership roles, including Alcoholics Anonymous, McConnell Church, Red Cross, and the local community as an election judge.
He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him but especially missed by his family: beloved wife, Michelle Twarog; son, Joe Twarog; daughter & son-in-law, Cindy & Nick Simotes; granddaughter, Rachael Simotes; cousin, Bob Drawal; and special goddaughter, Donna Miller. Many other extended family and friends also share in his legacy.
A celebration of Ron's life in an open house forum will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2013, from 2 until 4 p.m. at the Family Life Center in McConnell Memorial Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ron's honor to McConnell Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O Box 235, Hiawassee, GA 30546.
