Robert Wayne Burrell

Robert Wayne Burrell, age 99 of Murphy, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at his home. Mr. Burrell was born April 4, 1915 in the Unaka Community of Cherokee County, NC.
He was a member of Sunny Point Baptist Church and as a US Army WWII Veteran received two Bronze Stars while serving in New Guinea and the Philippines. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, and logging.
He was preceded in death by Parents, Adam Elonzo Burrell and Nancy Eva Crowe Burrell, son, Larry (Jacquline) Burrell, daughters, Virginia Frady, Juanita Burrell and Winona Burrell, and grandson, Robert Burrell.

Survivors include: The mother of his children, Edna Burrell, sons Johnnie (Katherine) Burrell, David J. (Gail) Burrell, and Jackie (Trina) Burrell, daughters, Dorothy Wilkerson, Linda Sue Burrell, son- in- law, Junior Frady, grandchildren, John Earl, Jeanette, Randy, Chris, Bradley,Diana, Jeff, Mike, Debbie, Resa, Tony, Jennifer, Travis, Rusty, Stevie, Chris, Adam, Matthew, Kyle and Michelle, and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Funeral services: Monday, March 23, 2015 at 2:00PM from the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy with the Rev. Alan Harris, Rev. Kenny Corn and Rev. Sonny Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Military graveside rites conducted by veterans organizations: Murphy VFW Post 10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post 96 and DAV Chapter 73 and Clay County VFW Post 6812. Pallbearers: Travis Burrell, John Earl Burrell, Chris Burrell, Bradley Burrell, Jeff Frady, Stevie Beaver, Tony Frady, and Adam Dockery. Honorary Pallbearer; Matthew Dockery.


The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy, Sunday, March 22, 2015, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
