Robert (Bob) Milton Horne, born December 5, 1934 to Joseph (Jack) and Jessie Lee Harrell Horne of Orlando, Florida, was welcomed home by God on Thursday, January 3, 2013.
Bob was a graduate of Edgewater High School, a graduate of the University of Florida with a B.S. in Forestry and remained a lifelong Gators fan. Following college he served his country in the United States Army (active and reserves) for six years. After 27 years as a contractor sales manager with Mills and Nebraska Lumber Company Bob retired in 1987. He later moved to the Great Smoky Mountains where he made dozens of friends and was a proud resident of Murphy, N.C.
Bob was a member of the Central Florida Council of Boy Scouts in which he achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of several other organizations including: the Orlando Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Winter Park Elks Club, and the Central Florida Lumberman's Association. Bob was an instructor in Florida for both the NRA on gun safety and for the Freshwater Fish and Game Commission. Bob volunteered as a Special Deputy for the Seminole County Sheriff's Dept. Reserves. He also worked with the Orange County Sheriff's Dept. where he was awarded for his help in designing their shooting range. Bob was an avid gun and model train collector and enjoyed flying remote control aircrafts.
Bob was a southern gentleman, with a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He is survived by his loving wife Dierdre (Dee) Sullivan Horne, a daughter and son-in-law Kimberly and Read Comstock and two grandsons Rory and Quinn Comstock of Austin, Tx.
Also left to celebrate his life are cousins Harrell Wood and Gordon Parker Revell from Bristol, Florida and all his "Sullivan" in-laws from Erie,PA., Cortland, NY, Des Moines, IA, Raleigh,N.C., and Champlin, MN., fifteen nieces and nephews, and five great-neices and nephews - who all loved and will miss him dearly.
A memorial service by Father George Kloster of St. William Catholic Church/Immaculate Heart of Mary was held at Cochran-Peachtree funeral home on Sunday, January 6, 2013. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials in Bob's honor may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary's building fund, Hayesville, N.C.
