R.L. Couch, Jr., age 72 of Blairsville, GA passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. He was born to the late R.L. Couch, Sr. and Imogene (McBrayer) Couch on May 9th, 1951 in Buford, GA.
He was preceded in death by his above mentioned parents and his siblings Lynda (John) Murphy, Paul Couch, Jimmy Couch, and Debbie Couch, all of Cumming, GA.
R.L. worked most of his life in residential construction. He loved working with wood. He did not need blueprints- he figured plans on paper and was precise with measurements. He was a framing carpenter, the saw man, builder, and ran a cabinet shop. He even made some furniture for his immediate family.
He worked in the church bus ministry, and enjoyed many years in the prison ministry (ordained minister) and also operated his rental properties. The rental property, though very challenging, made a way for his wife to retire early. He was a hard working man of Baptist faith and loved his family (and others) dearly.
He wasn't shy to talk about Jesus and the Bible. He loved to share the gospel and reassurance that everyone can be saved with just a simple sincere prayer for God to save their soul. When he would preach at funerals or at a prison, he would say, "I could swing over Hell on a rotten grape vine and if it broke, I would go straight up." Faith of a mustard seed is all we need. His greatest accomplishment was sharing his love of Jesus with family, friends, and strangers. Good or bad, rich or poor, dirty or clean, ugly or pretty, fat or skinny, everybody can have blessed assurance of their salvation. John 3:16.
R.L.'s favorite Bible verse was Titus 1:2, "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began."
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Vianne Nichols Couch; daughters, Laurie (Danny) Grier of Ft. Payne, AL; and Dana (Chad) Sorrells of Suches, GA; and sister, Darlene (Ronnie) Eleazer of Cleveland, TN; seven grandchildren, Vandon (Michaela) Couch of Blairsville, GA; Felton and Mason Grier of Ft. Payne, AL; Caleb and Austin Crocker, and Heather and Ben Sorrells of Suches, GA; two-great grandchildren, Vanna Couch Redden and Zayden Couch.
R.L. also leaves behind many friends and relatives.
At R.L.'s request, he chose to be cremated with no service and he wanted ALL to be happy (not sad) for him to meet JESUS, his LORD and Saviour, He said his wife and daughters could plan a future celebration or not, but do not shed tears over him going to his heavenly home.
Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville is honored to be serving the family of Mr. R.L. Couch, Jr.
