Richard Bondi

Dr. Richard John Bondi, age 72, of East Ellijay, GA, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Richard was born November 26, 1951, in Cincinnati, OH and raised by his adoring parents August and Catherine Bondi from age 6 months on..

Richard was a man of immense curiosity. He pursued all of his myriad of interests such as fly fishing, camping, cooking, pocket knives, and photography with pure passion and enthusiasm. His passions led him to be an avid reader on all of his favorite subjects leading to mastery of many of them. His wit was unmatched, and not one that we will see again in this world. But most importantly he was a dear husband, father, grandfather, friend, brother, and uncle to many. His generosity and passion were best exemplified by his relationship with his wife Roberta, who he devoted so much of his life to. They were each other’s heroes, and exemplified everything we all strive for in a loving partnership.

For most of Richard’s career he was a psychotherapist/spiritual director/guide at St Bartholomew Episcopal Church’s Emmanuel Center for Pastoral Counseling. The wisdom he shared and the healing he provided will continue to bless the world through the many people who sat with him over the almost 30 years he was there. Prior to his experience as a therapist he shared his wisdom as an Assistant Professor of Christian Ethics with many students at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, August Lawrence Bondi; and mother, Catherine Dillon Bondi.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta Bondi; daughter, Anna (Dugan) Trodglen; son, Benjamin (Jessica) Chesnut; brother, David (Jean) Bondi; brothers-in-law, Fred Cowan, Scott Cowan, Wesley Cowan, and Andrew Cowan; and grandchildren, Gabriele Chesnut and Dylan Chesnut.
