The Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory of Blairsville announces Memorial Services for Mr. Richard Alonzo McTyre, age 84 of Blairsville who passed away at his home on Friday, July 29, 2016.
Mr. McTyre was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 26, 1932 to the late Lonnie Boyce & Nina Hope (Moore) McTyre. A proud patriot, he was called to serve in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Later, he began a career as an Aircraft Mechanic, where he eventually retired from Delta Airlines. The family will cherish memories of him coaching their little leagues in a variety of different sports, including baseball, basketball, and football. Also, teaching "his boys" to play games of Bridge and Chess. Richard was an avid golfer and a talented primitive artist. He was known for his amazing sketches and portraits of the most elaborate scenery.
He will be especially missed by his family: his wife, Carolyn Jones McTyre; sons, Tobin McTyre, Robert McTyre, and Jack McTyre; sister, Virginia Waters; and 3 grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith Carol Smith; and his parents, L.B. & Nina (Moore) McTyre.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2016 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Rod McClarnon officiating. A eulogy will be delivered by Keith Backstrom. Special music will be presented by Sarah Hope McTyre accompanied by Laura Purser. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Georgia National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the service begins.
