Raymond (Tony) David Parr, beloved husband, father, brother, and favorite grandad, passed away on November 5, 2023, at the age of 81. Born on February 5, 1942, in Macon, Georgia to the late Raymond and Daisy Parr.
Raymond's life was filled with compassion, kindness, and deep sense of service. After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army. His dedication to his country was admirable and demonstrated his unwavering commitment to protecting and preserving the values he held dear. As a II Lt. he served in Okinawa, and Ft. Jackson, SC.
Outside of his military service, Raymond had a variety of interests that he enjoyed greatly. He truly had a green thumb and found solace in gardening. Tending to plants and watching them flourish brought him immense joy and satisfaction. Additionally, Raymond was a passionate fan of Elvis Presley and took pleasure in listening to his music, singing along to Elvis's iconic hits. Another passion that Raymond held close to his heart was fishing. He cherished the peaceful moments spent by the water, waiting patiently for the perfect catch. The tranquility of nature provided him with a sense of serenity and rejuvenation that he carried with him throughout his life he found in the North Georgia mountains.
Sports were also an important part of Raymond's life. As an avid supporter of UGA Football, he cheered fervently for the team during every season. His dedication as a fan exemplified his loyalty and unwavering spirit. "Go Dawgs." He was also an avid Atlanta Braves Fan.
Raymond will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends. He is survived by Linda Teague Parr, his devoted wife who stood by his side through thick and thin. Their enduring love was a testament to their unbreakable bond. He is also survived by his children; Terri (David) Worthey, Raymond David Parr Jr., Jeffrey (Sheri) Parr, Tracie (Deland) Ruff, his siblings; Randall (Anne) Parr, Denise (Paul) Scanlin, and Jack (Cindy) Parr, his grandchildren; Brandi, Sandi, Sam, Sarah, TJ, Hannah, Zachary, Rhett, Carson, Deland jr, and Mattison, his great-grandchildren; Brandon, Owen, Rowen, Weston, Savannah, and Caden. Their lives have been enriched by Raymond's guidance, support, and unconditional love.
Raymond was proceeded in death by his parents, Raymond and Daisy Parr, and his sister Debra Ann Parr.
During his lifetime, Raymond touched countless lives with his warm smile, compassionate heart, and selfless nature. He will be remembered as a beacon of light in the lives he touched.
Friends and family are invited to honor Raymond's memory during the visitation on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory of Blairsville. Following the visitation, a memorial service will be held from 2:00 in the Chapel with Pastor Ted Lindman officiating. The service will be a cherished opportunity to celebrate Raymond's life and share memories of the joyous moments he brought into our lives.
Raymond David Parr has left an indelible mark on our hearts and his spirit will forever remain with us. May he rest in eternal peace knowing that he was deeply loved and will never be forgotten.
