Raymond L Bailey

TSG Raymond L. Bailey Jr. (Ret., USAF), age 79 of the Gum Log area of Union County, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at home on Friday, September 15, 2017. Ray's health had been declining in recent years, but he had been out to lunch and Home Depot the same day.
He was born in Landsdowne, PA on June 23, 1938, the son of the Late Raymond L. Bailey Sr. and the late Emma Bailey. Ray joined the United States Air Force at age 17 and retired as a Tech Sgt. After 21 years, during which time he was deployed to Japan, Gaum, Johnson Island, Alaska, and many state-side bases.
He and his wife moved to Union County in 1983 and for the past 33 years had loved calling these mountains "Home". Ray had many interests in his life including woodworking and stained glass art, but he had an enduring love for cars, both vintage and newer. He was active for several years in the Good Neighbor Auto Club and still drove his Mustang to local car events and shows. He will be greatly missed by his many friends, neighbors and family.
Surviving Ray are his wife of 41 years, Sharon Branch Bailey, of Blairsville, GA; two daughters and one son-in law, Deborah Saunders, Terri and Scott Austin; three grandchildren, Brian Vazque, Ricky Gant, and Bailey Saunders, all of Delaware; sister and brother-in-law, Vincent and Alice Ann Delosso, of Deltona, FL; brother-in-law, Greg Branch, of Young Harris, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Emmi Branch, of Eustis, FL; Special "cousin-in-law", Ann Grantland, of Gadsden, AL; and close family friend Paula Lirette, of Blairsville, GA
