Rachel Lura Windsor, age 97, passed away on January 25, 2025. She was born May 24, 1927, in Elberton, Georgia to the late Benjamin Ivy Thornton, Sr. and Susie Williamson Thornton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey L Windsor, Jr; Brother, Thomas Thornton; Brother, B.I Thornton, Jr; Sister, Susan Graves; nephew and long-time giver, Bill Thornton; and niece and long-time caregiver, Rebecca Thornton.
Rachel was a retired teacher spending her life shaping the minds of young people and leaving a lasting impression on her pupils. She often volunteered at the Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee, Georgia as the school marm. Rachel served her community at the Chatuge Regional Hospital as a Pink Lady helping people during difficult times in their life. Mrs. Windsor spent time as an active member of Sharp Memorial Methodist Church in Young Harris, Georgia in the Disciples Sunday School Class. Mrs. Windsor was a member of the Young Harris College Alumni Association, Class of 51, and a past chairman of Towns County Heart Association.
She is survived by nephew Edward C (Mickey) Graves Jr, and niece Rena (Nevin) Patton. Other family members and friends also survive.
A Graveside Memorial service and interment will be held at Elmhurst Cemetery in Elberton Georgia on February 15, 2025, at 1:30pm.
