Michael "Pops" Buchanan

Roy Michael "Pops" Buchanan, age 72, of McCaysville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Hospice of Chattanooga in Chattanooga. Michael was born December 1, 1950, in Copperhill, TN to the late Roy and late Joan Deal Buchanan. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Danny Lynn Buchanan, and sister-in-law Sandy Buchanan. 

He is survived by his wife, of 52 years, Janet Buchanan; son Jeremy (Amy) Buchanan; son Jacob (Tiffany) Buchanan; grandson Gabe Buchanan; granddaughter Jasmine Buchanan; granddaughter Maddie Buchanan; grandson Kevin Buchanan; grandson Jordan Buchanan; granddaughter Emma Buchanan. He is also survived by his brother Marty (Brenda) Buchanan; brother Scott Buchanan.  Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Michael was a deacon and member of Kingtown Baptist Church.  He loved his family and especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren.  Michael loved sports and was an avid Tennessee fan.  He was known as "Pops" to many in the community because of his lifetime investment and encouragement to children through Fannin County Little League sports throughout the years. Michael and his family enjoyed many memories through the years of sports as he was their biggest fan.  His favorite memory to recall was the winning walk-off base hit by his grandson Gabe Buchanan during the 2018 win against Dawsonville.  He was a proud "Pops" to the entire Fannin County High School Baseball Team during that time and especially enjoyed supporting them in the 2019 Elite Eight games hosted that year at home.

Memorial Service, on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 5:00 PM at Kingtown Baptist Church in McCaysville, Georgia, with Rev Joey Buchanan and Rev. Terry Callihan officiating. Music provided by Mary Jo Towe and Nichole Evans.

The family will receive friends at Kingtown Baptist Church in McCaysville, Monday, June, 12th, 2023, from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM.
