Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mrs. Pauline "Polly" Taylor, age 92, of Hiawassee, who passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee.
Mrs. Taylor was born in Hiawassee on September 5, 1923, a daughter of the late Dorrence Foster and the late Maybelle (Mauldin) Foster. She was a lifelong resident of the area, except for a small time during the Great Depression where she found factory work in Ohio to help make ends meet at home.Dedication to her family was her nature. Her heart was with Christ her Lord, and Pauline was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was an extraordinary woman who raised 4 children as a widow. For over 40 years, Mrs. Taylor was known as the hostess for the Georgia Mountain Fair at the old general store. Pauline had a passion for people, loved her church, and read her Bible every day.
She enjoyed preparing and providing meals for her family and friends including large platters her famous chicken salad sandwiches. Pauline's adventurous spirit led to much of her time being spent outdoors. Her family will treasure memories of picnics, fishing, hikes, bountiful gardens of vegetables and flowers, and learning to swim in Soapstone Creek. Pauline even proved her bravery when it came to bears! In the colder months, Pauline would can her garden harvest and create beautiful quilts.
She will be tenderly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Betty Taylor, of Buford, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Graham Bell, of Clarkesville, Georgia; daughter, Hilda Thomason, of Hiawassee; and son and daughter-in-law, Denver and Vivian Taylor of Buford; six grandchildren: Greg Hutcheson, Lindsey Bell, Sabrina (Jason) Balkcom, Alicia (Eric) Castella; Renee (Brandon) Miller; and Kelly Taylor; three great grandchildren: Isabella Balkcom, Wade Balkcom, and Taylor Balkcom. many nieces and nephews also survive. She had been preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Taylor; her parents; a son-in-law, Lane Thomason; and two brothers, Ralph Foster and Douglas Foster.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, February 19, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., to be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Forrester and Rev. Anthony Dye officiating. The body will lie instate at the church beginning at 1:30 p.m. before the funeral service starts. The following gentlemen have been requested to serve as pallbearers: Greg Hutcheson, Jason Balkcom, Rodney Underwood, Kerry Dills, Gary Denton, and Brandon Miller. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, where Mrs. Taylor will be laid to rest next to her husband, Clifford Taylor. The family will be meeting with friends at Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee on Thursday evening, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
