Mrs. Patience I. Black, age 94, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2009, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville. Mrs. Black was born in Bullock County, Georgia, on June 5, 1914, a daughter of the late Raleigh Johnson and Annie Clifton Johnson. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County. Mrs. Black had been active in United Methodist Women; former volunteer with The American Cancer Society; Oasis, and a nursery worker at church. She had been preceded in death by her husband, Ned Black, and a daughter, Patricia Gail Offret.

Surviving family members include daughter and son-in-law, Miriam and A.G. Sherman, of Blairsville; daughter, Nedra Kass, of Blairsvile; and daughter and son-in-law, Johnnye and Jerry Phillips, of Weirsdale, Florida. Six Grandchildren and Seven Great Grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 15, 2009, at 3:00 p.m., from First United Methodist Church of Union County, with Rev. Ben Lewis officiating. The family will meet with friends on Sunday, one hour prior to the service. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: A.G. Sherman, Kristian Phillips, Jerry Phillips, Hoyt Raper, Gene Hodson, and Mike Cunningham. Interment will be in Union Memory Gardens.
