The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces Funeral Services for Mrs. Ophelia W. Dickey, age 90, who after a long period of declining health died peacefully at her home on June 14, 2016.
Ophelia was born on May 26, 1926 in Archer, Florida, to John and Lena Watson. She had eight brothers and sisters, survived only by her sister, Rosalie Thomas. She spent her childhood in Archer where she met her husband of nearly 61 years, Henry Dickey. She was a long time resident of Florida, and retired from Bell South in 1982. Ophelia relocated to the Young Harris area with her husband in 1990. She attended McConnell Memorial Baptist Church, where she loved all the ladies in her Esther Class. She was an active member of the Singles Club, which met for breakfast every week. Ophelia's favorite things were traveling and spending time with her family. Over the years, she and Dick were able to travel to all 50 States, Mexico, Canada, and several European Countries.
Surviving are her daughter & son-in-law, Beverly & Pat Turner; daughter, Brenda Arnett; daughter & son-in-law, Karen & Don Wilgan; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Dickey. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. Ophelia was pre-deceased by her husband, Henry Dickey; and her son, Richard Dickey.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Heard officiating. Music will be provided by Wayne Hundley. Pallbearers are her grandchildren: Sonja Moelter, Celeste Walker, Aaron Henley, Amy Hash, Chad Thompson, Jennifer Farmer, Eric Dickey, and Lauren Ruehman. Interment will be at Osborn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service begins.
