Mr. Oid James Rhodes, age 87 of Murphy, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015 at his home. Oid was born June 30, 1927 in Cherokee County, NC to the late Jasper Rhodes and the late Hannah Satterfield Rhodes. A member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters, Paul, Jerry, Bertha, Jane and Josephine. Oid was a logger by trade. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. He also liked to crack pecans and care for his tomato plants.
Survivors include loving wife, Ruby D. Rhodes, seven children, Diane Carson, Marvin (wife Kathy) Rhodes, Rosalee Rhodes, Garney Rhodes, Kathy Pressley, Steve Rhodes, and Winona (husband Jody) Anderson, four brothers, Mike Rhodes, Vincent (wife Loretta) Rhodes, Billy (wife Carolyn) Rhodes, and Tony Rhodes, also many grandchildren, great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 3, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Boiling Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddis Dockery officiating. Music provided by the church choir. Interment will follow in the Hiawassee Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Rhodes, Max Odell, Mark Farmer, Jack Elder, Jimmy Wright, and Rex Davis. Honorary pallbearers are his seven children.
The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy on Thursday, April 2, 2015, from 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
