Eulogy fro Nolan Paul Dugas, Jr.
Today we say a bitter farewell to a remarkable man - a husband, a father, a brother and an uncle - Nolan Paul Dugas Jr, who past away on Sunday after a severe struggle with the cruel disease of ALS at the age of 65.
Nolan Dugas was born March 11, 1952 in Houma Louisiana to a simple catholic, hard working family. His father, Nolan Paul Dugas Sr. was a veteran of WW2, who landed on the Normandy coast with troops from General Patton.
From his childhood, he showed strong personality and determination. This prepared him for challenges he faced his entire life.
He always studied and worked hard and achieved great things in his career.
After graduating from Louisiana Tech obtaining a Bachelors Degree in civil engineering, he left the state. He wanted to see the world and all its variety. The oil industry, which he devoted all his life to, gave him this opportunity.
His first overseas job was in Scotland, then it was a kaleidoscope of countries: Norway, Italy, India, South Korea, Canada, Australia, Indonesia, California and Alaska. In the span of ten years, he went from an engineer to supervisor of million dollar projects.
He built gigantic offshore oil platforms in the unforgiving environment of Alaska and in the Java sea near Indonesia always ensuring great performance.
He was called "a hero" by ConocoPhillips management, because his experience helped rescue the many projects running out off schedule.
But life is not just a job. Nolan was a caring husband for his wife Valentina, tender father for his son Daniel and a gentle grandfather/ "papa" for his grandson Jackson. He respected his older brother James, and loved his nieces Denise and Kimberly.
He was a devoted friend to all of you who came here to give last respects to your close friend.
He was a man with real man hobbies: fishing and hunting, an avid shooter, life time National Rifle Association member, a big fan of Louisiana State University football team, and mad dog lover. Finally, he considered himself a strong conservative middle class citizen - the basement of our great country of which he was a huge patriot.
Dear Nolan will remain forever in our hearts!
