Mr. Nevin Rice, age 93 of Marble, NC passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017, at his home. Mr. Rice was born August 2, 1924, in Anderson, SC to the
late Vernon Washington Rice and Essie Manning Rice. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tara Leigh Cox.
Mr. Rice was a US Navy veteran serving as a Fighter Pilot flying the F-6F Hellcat from aircraft carriers during WWII. He was a boxer while attending Central High School in Charlotte. He loved all University of North Carolina Sports. He began his career in insurance with Allstate Insurance Company, later working as an insurance company executive, and then broker. In later years he had worked as a financial planner. Mr. Rice was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Hayesville and had been very active in the Episcopal Church in different areas where he had lived. He had served as Senior Warden in the St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Daphne, Al, served on the Bishops Standing Committee and was named to Who is Who among the Episcopal Church. He was an avid animal lover who never missed a chance for an animal rescue.
Survivors include:, wife, Estelle Avent Darrow Rice, children, Estelle "Bunny" Darrow (Sam) Cox, Carolyn Betts Rice, Amy Alden Rice Liske, grandchildren, Nevin (Leslie) Cross Cox, Brynnan (Jim) Reddy, Spencer Cox, Sydney Liske, Shelby Liske, Kelsey Liske, Kayla Liske, great-grandchildren, Mason Cox, Emma Cox, Benjamin Cox, Samuel Reddy and Anne Crosby Reddy.
Funeral services: Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at 11:00 Am at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. Bill Breedlove, Rector officiating. Interment will follow on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at 3:00 PM in Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte. Pallbearers, Sam Cox, Mason Cox, Nevin Cox, Benjamin Cox, Spencer Cox and Jim Reddy.
The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy Tuesday evening six until nine PM.
