Mitchell Clarence English, age 72, of Murphy, NC passed away Monday, September 28, 2009 at his home surrounded in his final days by his loving family.
Mr. English, a native of Buncombe County, NC, moved to Murphy in the early 1970's. As a general contractor for over thirty years, he built many of the buildings in Murphy and the surrounding area. Mr. English semi-retired 3 years ago and has kept busy building decorative display cabinets among other hobbies. He was an avid football fan and rarely missed a Murphy High Bulldog's Friday night game. Mr. English most recent contribution to the community was his tirelss work on the lady's softball cage at Koneheta Park.
Mr English was born on February 28, 1937 to the late Oseph and Emma Carver English of Candler, NC. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert English and Boyd English.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Ricky Harwood of Greenville, TN, son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Debra English of Murphy, NC, daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Brian Newton of Mooresville, NC, daughter, Terry Atkins of Asheville, NC, brothers, Vaughn English of Richmond, VA and Edward "Buster" English of Asheville, NC, four grandchildren, Carissa English Cornwell of Andrews, Candice Newton of Mooresville, Sean Newton of Charlotte, and Kurt English of Murphy, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 10:00 AM from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Sparks officiataing. Pallbearers will be Mike English, Ricky Harwood, Bill Wilson, Brian Newton, Sean Newton and Kurt English. Burial will follow in Pole Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Candler, NC.
The family will recive friends at Cochran Funeral Home Friday, Ocotber 2, 2009 from 6-9:00 PM.
