Mrs. Mildred Thompson, 94, died at Union County Nursing Home on July 31.
She had been a resident of Union County since 1979. She was born in
Bridgeport, West Virginia on December 29, 1917, the second daughter
of the Rev. John Wakeman Ayers and Julia Lewis Ayers. She is predeceased by
her three sisters and brother, her husband of 57 years, Lawrence E. Thompson, III,
and her younger son, Richard Lewis Thompson.
She is survived by her older son, Lawrence E. Thompson, III., of Asheville, N.C. and
his wife, Penni; four grandchildren and eight great-grand children; and her devoted
friend of recent years, Charles Haines. Her grandchildren are Heather T. Mackey(husband-Don) of Kernersville, N.C., Christopher Thompson(wife-Cindy)
of Louisville, Ky.,. Richard Thompson(wife-Jackie), of Atlanta, Ga., and
Chad Thompson(wife-Brooke) of Lakeland, Fla. Her great grandchildren are:
Elizabeth and Samuel Mackey of Kernersville, N.C., Madison and Reagan Thompson
of Louisville,Ky. Stone and Steele Thompson of Atlanta, Ga., and Eli and Ean
Thompson of Lakeland, Fla.
As the daughter of a Baptist minister, she lived in four different locations in
West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Mil was a faithful wife of her husband, known as “Ted”, who was an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. They lived in nine different locations across the United States during his tenure with the FBI. After his retirement, they lived in Lakeland, Fla; Highlands, N.C, and Blairsville. In recent years,
She traveled to Europe Alaska, and western United States.
She was a member of Mountain Presbyterian Church, Blairsville, and the National
Association of Retired Federal Employees.
A memorial service conducted by the Rev. Travis Adams, is planned at the
Branan Lodge, Wesley Mountain Village, in Blairsville at 2 p.m. on Saturday,
August 18th. In lieu of flowers, the family desires that those who wish to, make
contributions to the Mountain Presbyterian Church, 2945 Young Harris Highway,
Blairsville, Georgia 30512.
