Michael McCurdy

Michael Burnett McCurdy, age 77, passed away on August 9, 2023 at his home in Murphy, North Carolina. Michael “Mike” was born October 27, 1945 in Chambersburg, Pa. He was the son of the late Samuel A. McCurdy and Jean W. McCurdy.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra K. McCurdy (May 2020), and his parents Samuel A. McCurdy (Feb 2000), and Jean W. McCurdy (June 1993).

Survivors include son Mark (Kimberly) McCurdy, sister Linda McCurdy, grandchild Chloe McCurdy, grandchild Kylee McCurdy, grandchild Chance McCurdy, and niece Rebecca Oyler.

 Mike was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam supporting C-130 Flareship Blind Bat Missions. He then served as a Fire Fighter at the Kissimmee Fire dept in Kissimmee, Florida later retiring as a Battalion Chief. During his Fire Fighter career, he additionally served as a Police officer with the Kissimmee Police dept. Mike was also an entrepreneur and owned a fire extinguisher business as well as a pet store during his life. Mike was a member of several charitable organizations for veterans and children.

He truly enjoyed the outdoors and wildlife, and particularly loved the mountains. His favorite pastimes were a hike in the mountains, a good book, and long talks on the porch with a cup of coffee. He will be missed.
