Michael David Orchin

Michael met his soulmate Kathleen through an ad in the personals, and they had so much in common, that immediately they knew they were meant for each other! After a brief courtship, they eloped to Sevierville, Tennessee and got married. Michael had visited the mountains of North Georgia for years every fall, and had been captivated by them, and they made the transition to live here full time in October of 2017, moving here from Cape Coral, Florida. He was a house painter, and had earned a good reputation because of taking professional pride in his work. Michael was a great animal lover and he loved the outdoors! He was always bringing home animals - he had 5 dogs, macaws, a pair of sugar gliders, snakes, and a 90 pound tortoise named "Harry". In Ft. Myers, he had been a volunteer at Manatee Park, and helped build the butterfly garden at Rotary Park in Cape Coral, and for several years had been President of the Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife (a group that was created to protect the burrowing owls in the area). On Sanibel, he volunteered for C.R.O.W., (Center for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife), where he rescued mostly eagles and other large birds that were injured, where the organization took them in to be rehabilitated and released back into the wild. Michael also enjoyed wildlife photography and loved native plants and trees.

He will be warmly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his loving wife of 30 years, Kathy Orchin; daughter, Lisa Orchin; son, Scott Orchin; and brothers, Dr. Morton Orchin and Dr. Brian Hersch; half siblings, Lynn Medeiros, Gloria Seiter, Kathy Barnes and Cris Dupuy.
