Melvin Edward Canup

Mr. Melvin Edward Canup, age 62 of Hayesville, passed away September 17, 2015 at his home. Mr. Canup was born March 21, 1953 in Cherokee County, NC to the late Marvin Canup and Louise Hall Canup. He was Baptist in faith and he attended the Fires Creek Baptist Church. He bravely served his country enlisting in the United States Army. In his spare time he enjoyed cooking, fishing and listening to music. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and watching the Tennessee Volunteers Football team.

Survivors include his mother, Louise Canup, his only daughter and sunshine, Misty Garcia and husband, Josh Collins, two sisters, Sue Canup, and Priscilla Phillips, three brothers, Gary Canup, Randy Canup, and Darryl Canup, two granddaughters, Sierra (Ronnie) Garcia, and Jordan Garcia, and one great-granddaughter, Cadance Ford.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home in Murphy with the Rev. Billy Franklin and Rev. Dallas Crowder officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12-2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
