Maxine Dopp Rehling, 93, died peacefully on November 17 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee, GA.
Maxine was born in Prattville, Michigan in 1921, the daughter of Rex and Phaye Dopp. A graduate of Taylor University in Indiana, she received her teaching certificate and began a long, successful career as an elementary school teacher in Gainesville, FL and Tuscaloosa, AL. She retired from teaching in 1986, and she and her husband, Conrad Rehling, traveled extensively. The couple moved to Hiawassee, GA in 2001 to be closer to their daughters.
She is survived by her three loving daughters, Melinda Patton (Rudy, now deceased), Melissa Stanz (Peter), and Mary Holmes (Jim), her grandchildren Steve Patton and Rachel Patton Rutledge, and Maggie Holmes Turner, Jamie, Sarah, and Abbie Holmes. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Stephanie, and Emory Patton.
A faithful Christian, Maxine loved the Lord and her churches in all the places she lived. She taught Bible study and Sunday school classes for years. She also served as a surrogate mom to countless golfers who played for her husband's golf teams at the University of Florida and University of Alabama.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on November 19 at 10am at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to McConnell Memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee, GA or Helen First Baptist in Helen, GA.
