Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces services for Mr. Max Rogers, age 87, of Hiawassee, who passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020, in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia after an extended illness.

Max served his country during the Korean War era in the United States Army for a short time and was stationed in Virginia and Maryland.

He spent 40 years working in Atlanta at the Ponce de Leon Avenue Sears as a head electrician in the maintenance department. He was a loyal worker, friend, husband and father. He loved Braves baseball and serving others through his church and community.

Max is survived by his wife, Dorothy Barrett Rogers of 65 years.
His daughters Ginger Rogers, Kim Rogers Stamey, son-in-law Paul Stamey, son, Michael Rogers and daughter in law, Crystal Moss Rogers.
His Grandchildren Jessica Stamey of Loganville, GA; Kristen Moss Whitener of Hiawassee, GA; Bradley Rogers, Addison Rogers and Autumn Rogers of Hiawassee, GA. He had one great grandson Tate Maxwell Stamey.

He is survived also by his sister Grace Dover, brother, Dan Eugene Rogers and Jerry Rogers.

He is preceded in death by his brother Ernest Rogers and his parents Paul and Ruby Rogers of Fodder Creek area of Hiawassee, GA.

Max was not only a hard worker and provider for his family, he had a servant's heart. If someone was in need, he would give his time to lend a helping hand. He loved his children through acts of service also. His actions of helping with yard work or DIY projects or electrical help are only a few of the many things he did for his family and others. He always liked the chance to go trout fishing when possible.

He was a long time member and a deacon at Olive Springs Baptist Church in Marietta, Ga. In the 1990's after moving to Hiawassee, he became a member at Union Hill United Methodist church. In his retirement he worked around his home and worked as a security guard at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds for a number of years.

Graveside services have been scheduled for Saturday, May 23rd, 2020, to be held at 11:00 a.m., from Burch Cemetery in Hiawassee. The following gentlemen have been requested to serve as pallbearers: John Edge, Gary Dover, Leslie Dover, Chris Rogers, Paul Stamey, and Curry Penland.

There will be visitation held at Cochran Funeral Home on Friday evening, May 22nd, 2020, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Due to local, state, and federal regulations concerning COVID 19, all guests are required to practice physical distancing of 6 feet apart while in the building, unless you are members of the same family. Please wear face coverings if you have those.
