Mary Sue Craig

August 23, 1937 — April 4, 2021

Mary Sue Craig, affectionately known as “Nana” to those who knew her best, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 4, 2021 at the age of 83. She was born on August 23, 1937 to Clifton (Shag) and Susie Hunt in Hemptown, Georgia. Mary had fond memories of growing up on a farm and spending time reading in the hay loft or by the stream. She was raised in the Baptist Church and maintained a strong faith throughout her life. After graduating high school, she attended a business school in Atlanta for a brief time before marrying her husband, Arlus Craig and moving to Marietta, Georgia. Mary’s love for children was apparent in the way she raised and nurtured her four children and her delight in being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary’s love for children was evident in her 30-year career as a bus driver for Cobb County Schools. She showed kindness and compassion to the children who rode her bus and was known to provide forgotten lunch money, shoes, and warm coats. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.
Mary is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Naomi and Rodney Fields, Martha and Donald Schrader, Helen and Paul McIntosh; son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Marian Craig; 17 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ann Wood-Chapman and Rebecca Bridwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Arlus Craig; Infant Craig; parents, Clifton and Susie Hunt; and granddaughter Amy Fields.
Pallbearers are grandsons Kyle Craig, Cole Fields, Matthew McIntosh, Caleb Schrader, Daniel Schrader, Jacob Schrader, and Luke Schrader.
A private family graveside service will be held on April 9, 2021.
Arrangements entrusted to the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, GA. You may send condolences to the family and sign the guest register at www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.
