Mary Emma Jones, a beloved wife, mother, artist, poet, published author, and lifelong learner, passed away on December 7, 2024, in Young Harris, Georgia. Born on November 10, 1944, in Izmir, Turkey, Mary Emma held a profound love for her homeland throughout her life. She grew up near Crawfordville, Georgia, where her passion for learning and teaching blossomed.
Mary Emma dedicated her career to shaping young minds as a middle school teacher in Blairsville, Georgia, from 1978 to 1990, where she was awarded Star Teacher in in 1984. Inspired by her students, she pursued an Education Specialist Degree in School Counseling, followed by a Ph.D in Counseling Psychology, reflecting her relentless pursuit of knowledge and commitment to helping others. Her educational journey included attending esteemed institutions such as Oxford College of Emory University, Emory University, Robert College in Istanbul, Turkey, Campbell University, North Georgia College, and the University of Georgia. Even in her final days, she was actively studying the Turkish language, a testament to her enduring love for learning. She was a member of many professional organizations and an avid attendee of professional development conferences, always seeking to improve her knowledge and skills.
Throughout her life, Mary Emma touched the hearts and lives of many in her community through her work as a counseling psychologist. Her compassion, wisdom, and creativity left a lasting legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege to know her.
Mary Emma is survived by her devoted husband, Robin Dee Jones; daughter, Darcy Marie Jones; son, Samuel Evan Jones; brother, Lawrence C. Brown; and stepbrothers, Thomas Macfie, Ian Macfie, and Sam Macfie.
Mary Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Hartwell Brown and Erma Marie Carl Brown; and stepfather Girwood Macfie.
