Mary Clark Merritt

Mrs. Mary Clark Merritt, age 93 of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Life Care of Copper Basin in Ducktown, Tennessee. Mary was born October 3, 1921 in Gainesville, Georgia, to the late Will and the late Velvie Lou Benson Clark. Mrs. Merritt had lived in Blairsville for over 60 years, and had been a resident of the Lazy R Assisted Living Home in Blairsville in recent years. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville, for many years, and a dedicated member of the Blairsville Order of Eastern Star, having held a variety of different posts. A devoted wife and mother to her three children, Mary served her family and community as a homemaker, a teacher's assistant, and worked with various state social services programs over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Josh Merritt..

Mary leaves behind her loving family members: son, William Terry Merritt of Blairsville; son, Jerry Lee Merritt of Canton, Georgia; daughter, RoseMary Allen of Blairsville; sister, Vivian Singleton of Gainesville, Georgia; and grandchildren: Lisa Williams, Lee Merritt, Keith Merritt, Chad Merritt, Joshua Stephens, and Jordan Stephens.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 9th at the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with the Rev. Luther Thomas officiating and Rev. B.A. Buchanan as Honorary Minister. Music will be provided by Rev. Luther Thomas and Sally Roberson. Interment will follow at 4:00 PM in the Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 12:30 until 1 PM
