Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mr. Marvin W. "Mark" Parker, age 91, of Hiawassee, who passed away on the morning of Friday, April 8, 2016, at his home, surrounded by family.
Mark was born in Lithonia, Georgia, on March 2, 1925 to the late Dewey G. Parker and Ina Chewning Parker. Mark retired from DeKalb County in 1985 and later that year moved to Hiawassee. He was a World War II veteran, having served overseas in Italy, France and Germany for 3 1/2 years. He received a Bronze Star and several combat medals. He was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joe Ann Thrailkill Parker; one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Carolyn Parker, of Cartersville, Georgia; two grandsons: Taylor and his wife Brooklynn Parker of Covington, Georgia; Madison Parker of Cartersville, Georgia; one brother, D.G. Parker of Clarkston, Georgia; one sister, Martha Dean Parker of Oxford, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee. Visitation will be held on Sunday at McConnell Memorial starting at 1:30 until the funeral begins at 2:30 p.m. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Taylor Parker, Madison Parker, Eddie Mashburn, Eddie Naugle, Joey Naugle, and Mike Parker. Burial will be in Osborn Cemetery.
