Martha " Betty" Thomas Smith

Martha (Betty) Thomas Smith, 85, of Kennesaw, Georgia, died on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.
Betty is survived by her children David Lamar Smith, Jr., (Ann) of Houston, Texas, Marlene Hooks (Rick) of Kennesaw, Teresa C. Rutherford (Bob) of Orlando, Florida, and Tracy S. Schmidt (Eric) of New York City; and her grandchildren Brandon and Steven Carden, Sierra Smith, and Philip, Andrew, and Katherine Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, D. Lamar Smith, Sr., and her daughter Carole E. Smith.
Betty was a much loved member of the community. She adored her grandchildren and loved to travel and spend time with them. In the 1990s, she worked as an afterschool program assistant at Big Shanty Elementary School, and she was a past member of Piedmont and Towne View Baptist Churches. Her primary occupation was bringing love and laughter to all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff of Union County Nursing Home for their compassionate and loving care.
A memorial service will be planned for family members at a later time.
