Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory announces the death and graveside services for Mrs. Martha Payne Fortenberry, age 91, of Blairsville, who passed away at home on Friday afternoon, April 10th, 2020.
Mrs. Fortenberry was born in Suches, Georgia, a daughter of the late Ben Seabolt and the late Evie Garrett Seabolt. She remained a lifelong resident of Union County, and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Mrs. Fortenberry had been preceded in death by her first husband, J.P. Payne; and second husband, Freddie Fortenberry; a son, Glenn Payne; a daughter, Cathy Payne; and a grandson, Brent Grizzle. Two brothers and a sister also had preceded Mrs. Fortenberry in death: Earley Seabolt and Arvil Seabolt, and Mae Dixon.
Many family members are left to treasure the memory of Martha: son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Dean Payne, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Doris and James Bridges, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Ronnie Dyer, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Racheal and David George of Clover, South Carolina; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Payne, of Blairsville; brother, Harley Seabolt, of Cleveland, Georgia; nine grandchildren: Shannon Whicker, Shane Payne, David Dyer, Rhonda Colwell, Jennifer Kerr, Kia Williams, Kyle Williams, Zachary Ramey, and Lindsey Ramey; great grandchildren: Emma and Elyssa Whicker, Ava Dyer, Amelia Dyer, Cooper Colwell, Carter Lane Colwell, Madison Hart, Megan Kerr, Travis Kerr, and Trent Kerr; and one great great grandchild, Lucas Mauer.
Graveside services have been scheduled for Saturday, April 11th, 2020, to be held at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, 68 Mt. Pleasant Church Drive, in Blairsville, with Rev. Ray Potts officiating. Special music will be presented by Megan Kerr, Zach Potts and Hailee Mealer. Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Flowers are graciously being accepted; however, if you wish, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
