Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Martha Idell Hunter Brackett, age 94, of Blairsville, Georgia, who passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2016, in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs. Brackett was born in Blairsville on July 15, 1922, a daughter of the late John E. Hunter and the late Cordie Collins Hunter. She treasured her family and friends, and enjoyed quilting, along with gardening and walking. She was known locally as the cafeteria manager for Town Creek Elementary School and also, working for Georgia Boot. Besides her parents, Mrs. Brackett had been preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Loy Brackett, and sisters, Irene Wiggins and Dolly Hunter.
Surviving family members include her daughter, Betty Knight, of Metairie, Louisiana; two sisters, Lorraine Brackett, of Blairsville, and Ollie Kimsey, of Hiawassee; two brothers: John L. Hunter, and Neil Hunter, both of Atlanta; grandson, Allen Knight; granddaughter and her husband, Heather and Craig Moore; great grandchildren: Conor, Adelaide, and Quintin Moore; and many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. Burial will be in New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, where Mrs. Brackett will be laid to rest next to her beloved late husband Loy. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral services begin on Tuesday, August 2nd.
