Martha Anne Cone

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces memorial services for Mrs. Martha Anne Cone, age 78, of Blairsville, who passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 in Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga after a brief illness.

Martha was born in Union County, a daughter of the late Ernest Cook and Mary Penland Cook. Martha had worked for the Union County School System as a teacher before retiring. She had lived here for most of her life, and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County, and a member of The Gideon's Auxiliary. Everyone who knew Martha knew that she loved her Lord, and was passionate about the Child Enrichment Center. She loved teaching children and instilling in them Christian values, and watching them grow into adulthood. She was enthusiastic about her Jesus and wanted everyone to know Him too! At the First United Methodist Church of Union County, Martha had served as Director of the CEC for 20 plus years. Martha had also served as a Blairsville City Councilwoman, and served more than 2 terms. Her husband, Mickey Cone, preceded her in death.

Surviving family members left to carry on Martha's legacy include son and daughter-in-law, Fred Scott Cone and Cathy Cone, of Cumming, Georgia; son, Todd Penland Cone, of Atlanta; and daughter and son-in-law, Mary Neil Cone Edge and Jeff Edge, of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Trisha Cook of Marietta, Georgia; sister and brother-in-law, Claudene and Ted Smith of Hickory, North Carolina; and sister, Mary Ruth Cook, of Blairsville; grandchildren: Kayley Huhl, Hannah Edge, Jeb Edge, Miller Cone, Mary Kate Martin, and Joanna Cone.

Memorial services are scheduled for Thursday, May 4, 2017, at 4:00 p.m., to be held at First United Methodist Church of Union County, with Rev. Mark Burgess officiating. Special music will be presented by Keith DeFoor, Jeff Bauman, and Zeke Burkhead. The family will meet with friends on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Cochran Funeral Home, between the hours of 5 until 9 p.m.
