Marion Mortensen Cooper, 82, formerly of Bryson City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Hayesville, North Carolina on Sunday, May 23, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Frederick Marshelle Cooper, and parents, Walter and Christina Mortensen. She leaves behind a daughter, Deborah Williams and husband David Williams of Hayesville, NC; son, Frederick Marshelle Cooper II of Seminole, FL; four grandchildren: Scot Williams, Kara Brown and husband Joshua Brown, Jacob and Kirsten Cooper; sister, Elaine Mortensen McConkey; brother, Walter Mortensen; much loved nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
Marion was born on August 18, 1938 in Somerville, Massachusetts. She graduated from Somerville High School in 1956. Soon after graduation, the family moved to Clearwater, Florida. Marion worked at the phone company for several years. She met and married Fred in a whirlwind romance that lasted 56 years. Marion raised her family in Clearwater and served as a homeroom mom at Ponce de Leon Elementary School, Girl Scout troop leader, little league scorekeeper for the Clearwater American Little League at Sid Lickton Field, and was an ardent supporter of the Largo High School Band of Gold, traveling as far as Whitewater, WI to cheer on her kids. Marion worked for the Trust Department at First National Bank of Clearwater for more than twenty years, earning a degree in Business Administration from St. Petersburg College along the way. Marion had a passion for family, travel, the beach, camping, her critters, and singing in the choir at the First Baptist Church of Bryson City, NC, where she and Fred retired.
The family will hold a private celebration of life service.
