Marie Rich Crump

Mrs. Marie Rich Crump, age 84 of Blairsville, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Union County Nursing Home. Mrs. Crump was born August 3, 1932 in Blairsville to the late Jewell and Fannie Colwell Rich. As a young woman, Marie was a gospel singer along with her father, Jewell. They sang together in many churches in the North Georgia and Western North Carolina areas. She and her husband, Harold, moved to Michigan where they lived and worked for many years before moving back to Blairsville in 1986. She worked as a nurse for 27 years both in Michigan and and in Hiawassee. Marie was of the Baptist faith attending both New Harmony Baptist Church and Harmony Grove Baptist Church. She also was a longtime member of the Union County Historical Society. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Crump in 2007.

Survivors include her daughter, Jamie Sue Thebert and her husband, Bill of Blairsville, step-granddaughter, Emily Clarke and her husband, Chris of Thornton, CO and their children, Claire and Declan.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Billy Nicholson officiating. Special music will be provided by Scott Lance.. Interment will follow in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The following gentlemen have been requested to serve as pallbearers: Norman Puckett, Kevin Tanner, John Crump, Frank Turner, Presley Rich, and Perry Groves. The following gentlemen have been requested to serve as honorary pallbearers: Willard Cardot, Reid Colwell, Haskin Colwell, Andy Gwynn, Jack Dillard, Joe Dillard, Danny Dillard, and Royce Dillard.

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville Friday, June 23, 2017, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm.

Flowers will be accepted, however, if you prefer, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the the Diabetes Foundation or to the Union County Historical Society in memory of Marie.
