Marie Laney (Dockery)

Mrs. Marie Dockery Laney, age 66 of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Murphy Medical Center. Mrs. Laney was born October 22, 1946 in Murphy, NC to the late Ralph Dockery and the late Minnice Graves Dockery. A native and life-long resident of Cherokee County and a member of the Hanging Dog Baptist church she was preceded in death by husband, Billy Ray Laney, sisters, Mary Neil Dockery and Francis Sneed, and one brother, Lewis Dockery. She worked for Levi-Strauss for many years until her retirement. Marie enjoyed gardening and farming. She loved the outdoors. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include daughter and son in law, Lisa & Luther Wright, daughter, Sandra Stewart, brother and sister in law, Loren & Sandra Dockery, brother and sister in law, Leon & Bethany Dockery, granddaughter, Jessica Stiles, grandson and granddaughter in law, Bradley & Heather Wright, great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Stiles and Kinsley Mickens. She was loved dearly and will be missed by a special niece, Barbara Sneed.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 7:00 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy with the Rev. David Postell officiating. Music provided by the Golden Sisters. Interment will follow in the Little Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery on Friday at 6pm. Pallbearers include Brett McDonald, Blake McDonald, Mike Kephart, Jason Gerbino, Jr., Bradley Wright, and Robert Laney. Honorary pallbearers are Cleaston Dockery, Terry Stewart, Rick McDonald and Brian McDonald.

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy, Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
