The Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory of Blairsville announces Funeral Services for Mrs. Margaret Louela Payne, age 79, of Blairsville passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016.
All of her life Margaret was a hard-working, country woman, providing for her family. Margaret loved growing flowers and vegetables. She had a vegetable garden and lovingly home-canned vegetables and cooked meals for her family, and enjoyed having them come and eat with her. For several years, Margaret sold her canned goods at local festivals and enjoyed seeing and talking to the people that came back each year to buy and enjoy her canned goods. She was a breast cancer survivor of 23 years and in her younger years, collected door-to-door yearly donations for the American Cancer Society to support cancer research and throughout her life she remained a supporter of the American Cancer Society. Margaret was of the Baptist faith, loved the Lord and was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Hillard and Ardella Barnes; her loving husband of 50 years, Willie "Bill" Payne; several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Surviving family members left to treasure Margaret's memory are: daughter, Denisa Stewart; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Ashly Payne; grandson, Drew Stewart; granddaughter, Megan Beaver; and great granddaughter, Claira Blakely Stewart; brothers, Doris Barnes and Oris Barnes and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2016 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Jerry Helton officiating. Music was presented by the House of Prayer Praise Team. Burial followed at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: A.J. Cary, Craig Stewart, Ted Barnes, Shane Payne, David Dyer, and Kyle Williams. The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday from noon until the service begins.
