Margaret Elinor Carlson, age 90, of Blue Ridge, passed away November 2, 2014 at Erlanger Medical Center, Chattanooga, TN. Mrs. Carlson was born September 21, 1924 in Pigeon, MI to the late William H. Bergman and Clara Schnieber Bergman.
She was a member of the Women's Army Corps, and met her future husband at the O'Reilly General Hospital in Springfield, MO in 1946. She married Donald F. Carlson in 1947, and they made their family's home in Grayslake, IL. During that time, they were active members of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church.
In 1994 they moved to Martinez, GA where they lived for ten years, becoming members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. They moved to Blue Ridge, GA in 2004, where Mrs. Carlson became an active member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Morganton, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: William Bergman, Arthur Bergman and Robert Bergman; and a sister, Beatrice Soberay.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Carlson; daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Manny Robles; daughter and son-in-law, Lynee and Mark Phelps; 7 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters: Polly Eichinger and Linda Weslock; a brother, Jerry Bergman; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 12:30 pm at the Shepherd Of The Hill's Lutheran Church in Morganton, GA., with Interim Pastor, the Reverend Deryck Durston officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Donations to Shepherd of the Hills outreach ministries are requested in lieu of flowers. Mrs. Carlson supported Bethlehem Ministry and Feed the Children, and her delight was to knit prayers shawls and winter caps for those in need. The church's address is 823 Forge Mill Road, Morganton, GA 30560.
