Maida Taylor

Maida Louise Taylor, age 90, passed away on November 29, 2024 in Murphy, North Carolina. She was born on January 10, 1934 to the late Howard B. Stiles and Mattie Taylor Stiles in Murphy, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Taylor; children, Harold Taylor, James Taylor, and Carol Rhodes; sisters, Amy Sneed, Wyoline Clonts, Iona Barron, Francis Hall, and Kate Middleton; brothers, Ralph, R.T. and John Stiles.

Maida was a life long resident of Murphy, North Carolina and a member of Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church with a strong Christian faith. She was employed with Levi Strauss for over 20 years and retired in 1997. As a seamstress, she created over 200 prayer blankets (Granny blankets), over which she prayed for family and friends who received them. She maintained a nurturing and encouraging spirit in the lives of everyone she came in contact with. To many, she was called "Granny Mom".

Mrs. Taylor is survived by daughters, Deborah (Harvey) Standridge, Rhonda (Robert) Steele and Dena (Stacey) Howard. 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren also survive.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2024 in the chapel of the Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home in Murphy, North Carolina at 3 P.M. Rev. Doug Howard will be officiating with music provided by Eve Steele. The family will be sharing together in a time of visitation with friends on Saturday December 7, 2024 from 2 P.M. until the 3 P.M. memorial service hour at the Cochran-McDaniel funeral home. Interment will be at the Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Gideons International in memory of Maida Taylor.
