Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Magnus Garrett Hamby, age 88, of Blairsville, who passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at her home.
Mrs. Hamby was born in Hiawassee, a daughter of the late Lazarus Garrett and the late Sophia Ledford Garrett. Mrs. Hamby was a loving mother and homemaker who enjoying gardening and canning. Magnus was a seamstress and also enjoyed crocheting. She loved her grandchildren and would always be thrilled when they came to visit. With a true servant's heart, Magnus loved people, and always found great joy in taking care of and cooking for people. That same servant's heart led her to be a volunteer for Union General Hospital as a Pink Lady. She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church, and she and her husband Loy loved to listen to gospel singing and would often travel to hear gospel groups.
Mrs. Hamby leaves behind her loving family who will treasure her memory: daughter, Pamela Denise (Steve) Ballard, of Gainesville; son, Gregory Allison (Patricia) Hamby, of Blairsville; and daughter, Trudy Hamby Hart (Terry Collins), of Blairsville; seven grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Sunday, August 13, 2017, at 3:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville, with Dr. Winfred Pitts officiating. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Johnny Hamby, Michael Hart, Shane Hamby, Butch Garrett, Royce Hamby, and Roy Hamby. Selected to serve as honorary escort to the family are the following gentlemen: Mike Garrett, Dale Hamby, and Glenn Hamby. Burial will be in New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
