Magdalena Houdeshel

Mrs. Magdalena Agnes Houdeshel, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at her home.

Mrs. Houdeshel was born Monday, February 7, 1921 in Munich, Germany to the late Joseph Schliesslhuber and the late Magdalena Schlemmer Schliesslhuber. Mrs. Houdeshel lost her first husband and survived several air raids during World War II. Magdalena married George Houdeshel in Munich, Germany on March 22, 1950. She came to America and became an American citizen soon thereafter. She was very active in church and her children's schools. She lived with her husband in Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, and Georgia. She, together with her husband, managed a hotel in Virginia Beach, Virginia, before returning to Georgia. They selected Blairsville for their home in 1973. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Union County; Friends of the Library; Union County Historical Society; OASIS; and was a Life Member of the Association for Research and Enlightenment. She enjoyed her family, many friends, wonderful neighbors, church activities, traveling, and playing cards.

Survivors include her loving husband, George; son, Peter Ludwig Gerum of Blairsville; son, George Dean Houdeshel of Powder Springs, Georgia; grandson, Mark Gerum of Hawaii, granddaughter, Jennifer Pierce of Maryland; sister, Agnes Davis of Mississippi; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Memorial Services are scheduled for Saturday, September 22, 2007, at 2:20 p.m., at First United Methodist Church of Union County, with Rev. Ben Lewis officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Regency Hospice.
She will be greatly missed by her family and dear friends in the United States and Germany.
