Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. Luther Rogers, age 94, of Blairsville, Georgia, who passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2016 in Blairsville.
Mr. Rogers was born in Culberson, North Carolina, on February 17, 1922, a son of the late Lemuel Rogers and the late Eva Leona Brown Rogers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in the Third Division during World War II, in Northern Africa, Italy and France. Luther attended The House of Prayer Interdenominational Church in Blairsville, and he had come to faith later in his life. He loved the Gospel of John. Luther enjoyed vegetable gardening, pitching horseshoes, and playing cards. Family was very important to him. His wife of 48 years, Gladys, preceded him in death, along with his parents and eight siblings, and a great grandchild, Caleb Pickelsimer.
Surviving family members left to treasure his memory are his children and their spouses: Linda and Herbert Kelley; Barbara and Jerry Helton; Freddie and Penny Rogers; David and Shirley Rogers; Gary and Betty Rogers; and Jeff and Crystal Rogers; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., at The House of Prayer Interdenominational Church, with Pastor Jerry Helton and Rev. Bill Honaker officiating. Special music will be presented by The House of Prayer Choir. The eulogy will be presented by Jeff Jefferson. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Gary Lackey, Josh Wilson, Shawn Wilson, Zach Helton, Luke Rogers, Nicholas Kelley, Bill Dyer, and Tony Dyer. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as honorary escort to the family: Wesley Kelley, Daniel Kelley, Matthew Patrick, and Malachi Patrick. Burial will be in The House of Prayer Church Cemetery, with Military Honors presented by North Georgia Honor Guard. The family will meet with friends on Friday evening, November 11, 2016, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
