Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mr. Luther Edward, better known as "Ed", DeFoor, Jr., of Hiawassee, who passed away on Saturday, August 17th, 2019. He was 81 years of age.
Mr. DeFoor was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a son of the late Luther Edward DeFoor, Sr. and the late Clara Ellis DeFoor. Ed remembers his parents as being very hard workers. His mother cooked and his father went to work. Ed and his brother were very close. As a child, he was very studious, but he also liked to play ball and Cowboys and Indians. He was a very good kid and even won a Citizenship Award. Religion was very important to him; his mother formed his religious beliefs, and Ed said he was saved when he was 12 years old. Some of Ed's favorite memories were listening to his mother play "Amazing Grace" on the piano. He had lived in Hiawassee for 17 years, moving here from Tiger, Georgia. Mr. DeFoor was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee. An outdoorsman at heart, Ed loved the mountains of North Georgia, and enjoyed hiking, camping, reading, studying the Bible and teaching Sunday School! Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura DeFoor; sisters, Lavon DeFoor, Ruth Defoor Reynolds; and brother,Mark DeFoor.
Family members left behind to treasure Ed's memory are: close friend and fiancee, Modean Lyons, whom he had known for 17 years; daughter, Dana Miller; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Rick Herrick; and daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Charles Whitehead; sisters: Lynda DeFoor Gardner (Don); brothers: James E. DeFoor (wife Norma, deceased); and Charles DeFoor (wife Cody, deceased); several grandchildren and several great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. DeFoor were scheduled for Wednesday, August 21st, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee, with Rev. Danny Byers officiating. Special music was presented by Wayne Hundley and Cheerful Sounds. The following gentlemen were selected to serve as pallbearers: Roy Cole, Dwight Wilson, Frank Witkowski, Jimmy Kimsey, Jim Moultrie, and Charles Nicholson. Burial will be in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home was on Wednesday, August 21st, at 1:00 p.m. before the services begin.
