Luneta Wilson "Lou" Hamby passed away on September 19, 2008 at the residence of son Denson Hamby who resides in Rome, Georgia. This date was the 69th anniversary of her first day and entry to the Piedmont School of Nursing.
Emma Luneta Wilson, born the daughter of the late Clifford Wilson and Sarah Loneta Anderson Wilson, on August 12, 1920 in Hogansville, GA and reared in Blue Ridge, GA. She and husband Walter Strauss Hamby were avid researchers of family history. They were married on December 12, 1942 in Covington, Kentucky. Also, she and her husband were actively involved in the establishment of the Ducktown Basin Museum. She was widely regarded by people of the local communities for her extensive knowledge of local genealogy, her ability to speak and convey the history of the Copper Basin. She was a life member of the Polk County Tennessee Historical Society. She was a graduate of Young Harris College and the Piedmont School of Nursing. She was also a care taker for numerous family members in times of need or failing health for many years. Mrs. Hamby was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Copperhill, TN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Strauss Hamby, on September 1, 1994, and her brothers, Clifford Floyd Wilson Sr. and William Anderson Wilson Sr.
Luneta is survived by sons Denson Baltzelle Hamby and wife Jackie, Walter Dale Hamby and wife Lanie, 4 grandchildren: Dale Lillane Hamby of Rome, GA, Geye Strauss Hamby and wife Traci of Buford, GA, Derek Sean Hamby of Rome, GA, and Devin Jacob Hamby of Rome, GA. She is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren: Ashley Lillane Hamby of Rome, GA, Hailey Anne Hamby, and Forbes Geye Hamby of Buford, GA. She is also survived by her niece Nancy Wilson Mier and husband Curt Tipton of Duluth, GA, nephew Clifford Floyd Wilson, Jr. and wife Linda of Garden Grove, CA and nephew William Anderson Wilson, Jr. of West Palm Beach, FL. Also, surviving is a special cousin, Andrea Beam Verner of Blue Ridge, GA.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 24, at 2:00PM from the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Blue Ridge with Reverend Barry Sarver and Michael Ragland officiating. Music will be provided by Edd and Jeri Sue Massingale. Interment will follow in the John Floyd Anderson Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the 1st United Methodist Church of Copperhill, 146 Scenic Drive, Copperhill, TN. 37317.
The following gentleman have been asked to serve as pallbearers. Derek Hamby, Devin Hamby, Geye Hamby, Tommy Hamby, Curt Tipton and Todd Graham. Honorary pallbearers will include Clement Bailey, Dr. William R. Lee, Carl Edd Abernathy and Tim Mercier.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, September 24th from 1:00-2:00PM.
