Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Dellinger, age 94 of Blairsville, who passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Union County Nursing Home.
Mrs. Dellinger was born in Louisville, Georgia, on January 19, 1920, a daughter of the late Carl F. Isbell and Hattie (Wilbanks) Isbell. One of 13 siblings, Lucy grew to know the value of family and developed a strong work ethic. She was gifted with a servants heart, every effort was made to make her family and friends feel special and taken care of. Always thinking of others first.Lucy worked several jobs over the years to help make ends meet, from laboring in cotton fields, making dresses with Carolina Dress and the Georgia Boot factory. She truly was a "jack of all trades" and even was known to lend her handy expertise to help with home remodeling projects and deck building. Her family will cherish memories of Christmas gatherings, Homemade soup with ingredients fresh from her garden and warm biscuits.
Lucy loved children, especially her grandkids. She enjoyed walking or hiking miles a day even into her 90's! One of her favorite pastimes was strolling at Meeks Park; feeding the squirrels along the way. Lucy and her late husband, Marshall; would often venture way out into the woods to camp and "rough it" by sleeping in the back of their pick-up. Needless to say, Lucy enjoyed outdoor activities, but it was her family and friends company she enjoyed the most. She had been preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Marshall Dellinger; her parents and 10 siblings.
Lucy leaves behind to treasure her memory, many family members and friends, including: son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Sandra Dellinger; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Arthur Burnette; and son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Margaret Dellinger; two brothers: Carl and J.L.
