James Lowell Keenum, 81, of Lilburn, GA, passed away on January 31, 2025. He was born on September 12, 1943, in Murphy, NC, to the late Robert and Ruth Keenum.
Lowell was known for his bright spirit and infectious sense of humor, making everyone around him feel welcome and loved. He often delighted friends and family with his clever limericks and had a fondness for country music. He found immense joy in simple pleasures, whether fishing in the nearby lakes, water skiing on sunny afternoons, tending to his flourishing garden, or simply enjoying a peaceful moment outdoors on his swing.
His interests extended to genealogy and Nascar, reflecting his passion for both discovery and fast-paced excitement.
Lowell dedicated more than 30 years of his career to General Motors in Doraville, Georgia, where he was known for his great work ethic and friendly demeanor.
Lowell's proudest accomplishment was his 33-year marriage to his beloved wife, Melva. Their love story was one filled with warmth, laughter, and a profound sense of companionship that inspired those around them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Melva Keenum; children Melissa (Mike) Hawkins and James (Shauna) Keenum Jr.; step-children Chad (Tracie) Clark, and Emily (Karl) Mercer; grandchildren Casey Boothe, Megan Bostic, Annabelle Johnson, and Mason Keenum; step-grandchildren Grace Mercer, Karley Mercer, Colten Clark, Savannah Clark, and Brandie Rollins; great-grandchildren Norman Bostic, Payton Boothe, and Lucas Boothe.
He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Ruth Keenum; and sisters Helen Cook and Margaret Clonts.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Cochran|McDaniel Funeral Home of Blairsville, GA, with Dr. Tom Jordan officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 1:00 pm on February 3, 2025, at Cochran|McDaniel Funeral Home of Blairsville, GA.
Interment will follow at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
