Mrs. Lougene Lydia Lance, age 85 of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away peacefully in her home on February 20, 2020 following a brief illness. Lougene was born on January 10, 1935 in Towns County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Lilly Cheek. She retired from Georgia Boot where she worked for over 50 years. Lougene was a long-time member of
Zebulon Baptist Church. She cherished her time spent with her family and having the joy of watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow over the years. Lougene's favorite past time was attending concerts at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, most often with Mike and Peggy Callaway. With an open heart and an open door, she fed friends and family for over
six decades. Her beloved kitchen was visited by many throughout her lifetime.
She is preceded in death by many family members; daughter, Debbie Phillips, husband, Charles Lance, husband, Grover Thomas, sister, Bessie Mae Miller, sister, Wilma Brown, brother, J.T. Cheek, sister, Ruby Nelson, sister Lenora Wright, sister, Geneva Gantt, brother, Wayne Cheek, and several nieces.
Survivors include three daughters and son-in-laws and a son and daughter-in-law; Vickie and Earl Brackett, Rita and Terry Hughes, Kathy and Jeff Butt, Brian and Angie Thomas, seven grandchildren; Nikki Hughes, Ashley and John Davis, Nataley and Ethan Goins, Kayla and Travis Hemphill, Dustin Hughes, Lyndsey and Clay Smith, Brody and Kylie Thomas, eight great-grandchildren; Kamryn Mull, Gracie Hughes, Bristol Davis, Brylie Davis, Nixon Goins, Brecken Goins, Pearl Smith, Adelynn Thomas, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. R.L. Martin and Rev. Tommy Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Blairsville, Georgia. Serving as pallbearers are W.C. Nelson, Mike Callaway, Bobby
Ford, Dustin Hughes, Trey Jennings, and Brent Jennings.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Cochran's Funeral Home.
