Lonnie Gene Raper

Mr. Lonnie Gene Raper, age 81 of Morganton, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2014 at his home. Lonnie was born May 27, 1933 in Morganton, GA to the late Alonzo Raper and the late Mary Ethel Pendergrass Raper. He was Baptist in faith. He was preceded in death by wife, Radie Mae Payne Raper, daughter, Austine Raper, son, Joe Raper, brother and sisters, JB Raper, Myrtle Ross, Opal Hughes, and Jeannette Hughes. Lonnie worked for Lockheed-Martin in Marietta for several years and also the Fannin County Road Department. He served in the Army and Air Force and he was a member of the Mineral Bluff Masonic Lodge # 483. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, and growing vegetables.

Survivors include daughter, Wanda (Bill) Byers, son, Bobby Raper, son, Ronnie (Jennifer) Raper, brother, Billy Raper, sister, Corene (Joe) Leite, eleven grandchildren, Jake Raper, Brittany Raper, Andy (Amber) Byers, BJ Raper, Michael Raper, Cody Raper, Heather Raper, Caitlin Raper, Marcus Moose, Morgan Moose, and Tate Moose and one great-grandchild, Alex Raper. Also several nieces and nephews survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Hughes officiating. Music provided by Randy Hughes. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lonnie's grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Long, Michael Raper, and the Mineral Bluff Masonic Lodge members.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 from 6-9 pm.
