Mrs. Lois Nell Long, age 97 of Blue Ridge, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Union General Hospital in Blairsville. Mrs. Long was born June 27, 1920 in Fannin County, GA to the late Walter Stanley and the late Mary Belle Messer Stanley. A member of Big Creek Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Fannin County, Lois and her husband Herman C. Long owned and operated the Toccoa Valley Camp Ground. She was also a full time mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In her spare time she enjoyed puzzle books and flower gardening. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by grandson, Kyle Rogers, great-granddaughter, Reagen Ethington, sisters, Virginia Messer and Eugene Davenport, and brothers, Hall Stanley and Curtis Stanley.
Survivors include: son, Merle Long, son, Gerald (Annette) Long, daughter, Gina (Ray) Golden, daughter, Cathy (Lyle) Scruggs, son, Freddy Long, sisters, Winnie Dillingham, Helen Tipton and Flora Belle Mashburn, twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Max Curtis, Rev. Jackie Cochran and Honorary Minister Rev. Paul Wehunt officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Josh Golden, Shane Rogers, Casey Rogers, Devin Long, Chan Long, Brent Long, Justin Scruggs and Bryon Ethington.
The family will receive friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5-9 pm. Flowers will be accepted or you may make a donation to the Big Creek Cemetery Fund, c/o Seth Stanley, 480 S. Old Aska Rd., Blue Ridge, GA 30513.
