Preceded in death by her parents (Lucille and Cecil Tillery) three sisters (Aileen, Mickie and Evelyn), one brother (David) and former husband (Charles Smith).
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Tom Sweet; her seven children: Barbara Holland (husband Cohen), Steve Smith (wife Lyn), Rob Smith (wife Sandra), David Sweet (wife Anita), Tommy Sweet (wife Yazmin) , Susie Sweet, and Barbara Sweet; eleven grandchildren: Tim Holland (wife Jan), Paige Tweedy (husband Barry), Becky Holland, Beth Page (husband Eric), Charles Oliver Smith, Merideth Smith (husband Matt Brummond), Sarah Smith, Stephanie Smith, Drew Sweet, Jayson Sweet, and Florencia Sweet; and eight great-grandchildren: Bryce Page, Kierstin Tweedy, Andrew Page, Brendan Tweedy, Lizzie Page, Timothy Page, Sophie Page and Joshua Page.
Lois was born in March 23, 1930 in Knoxville, TN and spent her life bringing joy and laughs to everyone she met. She loved dancing, singing and talking about her family - and if her dancing and singing could embarrass her family, she was even happier. She had a sense of fashion that was unapologetic and the personality to back it up. She became known as "Granny" with the birth of her first grandson 50 years ago and embraced that role for all kids, no matter their age or family of origin, who came through her house.
Those who knew Granny will never forget her as she had a way of making a lasting impression.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Lois will be held at Blairsville First United Methodist Church on Friday, March 17 at 4:00 pm.
The family wishes to thank the amazing staff at Union County Nursing Home for their compassion and care. If you wish, donations may be made to the Blairsville Senior Citizens Center; 474 Meeks Avenue, Blairsville, GA 30512 (706.439.6105).
Arrangements for cremation were entrusted to the care of Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory.
