Lloyd Elmer Lookabill, Jr.

On Sunday, February 4, 2024, Lloyd E. (Bill) Lookabill, Jr. passed away at Stonehenge Assisted Living in Blairsville GA after a short illness and a long life.  He was 101 years old. 

A veteran of World War II, Bill approached everything as an adventure. His many years as a professional trucker and love of “road trips” allowed him to see everything his country had to offer.  He deeply loved his family.  He loved animals, nature, many genres of music, good food, and any excuse to get dressed up.   

Between Bill’s love of travel and his time in the military, he had visited many places, but always felt at home in the Old North State.  He was the son of the late Lloyd E. and Clara Sue Hanner Lookabill, of Southmont, NC.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Joe H. Lookabill; sisters Mary Ellen Fishel and Clara Sue Carter; his first wife Sylvia Esau Lookabill; second wife Rebecca Briggs Lookabill; son John P. Lookabill; and step grandson Austin Ford.   

Survivors include his daughter Shelley Leiderman of Bowie, Maryland; son Michael J. Lookabill (Sue) of Bowie, Maryland; daughter Susan L. Oakley (Bill) of Murphy, North Carolina; grandchildren Jessica Remson (Bryan) of Stevensville, Maryland; Matthew Leiderman of Bowie, Maryland; JD Lookabill of Bowie, Maryland; great granddaughter Ayla Leiderman of Bowie, Maryland; brother John D. Lookabill (Judy) of North Charleston, South Carolina; stepdaughter Sheila Koontz and family of Lexington, North Carolina; and  step granddaughter Shannon Crandel (Luke) and family of St. Leonard, Maryland. 

Bill will be inurned at the Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Bladensburg, MD.  A memorial service is being planned for Spring 2024 in Murphy, North Carolina.
