Lloyd Baker, Sr, age 91, of Murphy, NC, passed away Monday, October 6, 2014, at Cherokee Indian Hospital. Lloyd was born September 1, 1923 in Fannin County,GA to the late Luther and Iowa Parris Baker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Morgan Baker, son, William Oliver Baker, daughter, Ora Bell Baker, brother Howard Baker, and great-grandson, Nathan Dillard.
He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Murphy and a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. He retired from Hitchcock Talc Mines and Ingles Supermarket.
Survivors include: Sons, Lloyd Baker, Jr, Jimmy W. Baker and wife, Sallie, Lawrence Allen Baker and wife, Elizabeth, and daughter Wanda Baker Hendry and husband Sidney, seven grandchildren, Lisa Miller, Susan Revell, Scott Dillard, Lorinda Baker, Michelle Baker, Chrystal Mimbs, and Kellie Pritchard, five great-grandchildren, Michael Miller, Adria Baker, Aaron Klopfer, Keela Mimbs, and Connor Pritchard. Also, several cousins, nieces and nephews and special caregivers, Betty Little and Dorothy Allison.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014, at 2:00pm at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy with the Rev. Everett Morrow officiating. Music will be provided by Donny Morrow. Graveside services will follow in the Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Calvin Murphy officiating.
Pallbearers will include Aaron Klopfer, Scott Revell, Nathan Pritchard, Loren Jones, Willis Allison, and Donny Morrow.
The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy from Noon until 2:00pm.
